Welcome to Claudius Speaks, a journal of bold art and writing that celebrates emerging talent.

We welcome submissions of exceptional, previously unpublished poetry, non-fiction essays, paintings, illustrations and photographs. We have no content restrictions; we only ask that you send your best, most polished and wholly original work to us. For special themed issues, we ask that your content reflect the theme as interpreted through your artistic lens.

Send Us Your Work: We accept submissions through our electronic submission system. We do not accept submissions through postal services or email. Your submission must be in one of the following file formats for submissions: .doc, .docx, .rtf, .pdf, .txt

For artwork, you may submit in the following formats: .pdf, .jpeg, .gif, .png (please limit file size to under 10 MB)

Manuscript Formatting: All manuscripts should be in 12-point type, with at least one-inch margins, and sequentially numbered pages. Prose should be double-spaced. Poetry should be single-spaced (unless unique formatting is essential to the artistry of the piece) and should not exceed 20 lines. The author’s name, address, telephone number, and email address should be typed at the top of the first page.

Submission Deadlines: The deadline to submit to the current theme of "Fever" is August 31, 2017.   

Simultaneous Submissions: We accept simultaneous submissions. We hope for all creatives to have every possible opportunity for success. However, we ask that if your piece is accepted by another outlet before we have responded to please withdraw your submission using the Submittable platform.

Multiple Submissions: We accept a maximum of two submissions per author/artist. 

Response Time: We strive to respond to submissions within one month. 

Submission Fees: Claudius Speaks aspires to promote emerging voices with powerful messages. It is free to submit to our journal!

Payment to Authors For General Submissions: Claudius Speaks is strongly committed to supporting our authors' work. Our current payment rates for work are as follows:

• Essays / Creative Non Fiction: $30
• Art: $15
• Poetry: $10

Issue Five Theme: Once again, each of our issues features a unique theme. The theme for issue five is "Fever." Feel free to interpret this theme however you see fit. 

Non-Fiction: We seek powerful, beautifully written, non-fiction pieces (essay, creative non-fiction, experimental) from new voices. There is no length restriction on content, but we ask that your piece be submitted in its most complete, edited, and proofread form.
